Infant Massage

Infant Massage Classes for Parents and Babies

Communicate with your baby through touch - the Language of Love.
Learn how Infant massage has many benefits for both parent and child.

                                        When do we start?

Parents often ask when can they start enjoying the Infant Massage  experience with their baby.  The answer is anytime you are ready!  There is no age that is wrong or right - you can start when your baby is first born or anytime after.  Babies and children of all ages enjoy Infant Massage.  I have worked with babies of all ages including toddlers - classes are tailored to meet the individual needs of each parent/child.

                                    My Special Needs Baby

Babies with special needs or high needs babies benefit tremendously from infant massage.  I have worked with many parents whose babies were very hypersensitive to outside stimuli of all kinds.  I will teach you the skills you need to help your baby cope with the outside stimuli and to become less sensitive.  Infant massage not only provides a way to help baby learn to cope with that stimuli but also teaches parents how to more effectively and confidently read their baby's cues and help them deal with stimulating environments.

                                                Siblings...

A fun and special experience for parents with older children (ages 6 on up) is to schedule a Siblings Class.  In this class I teach both parents and the older child Infant Massage.  The older sibling is taught to safely massage their younger sibling (with Parental Supervision of course!).   This keeps the older sibling involved with the new baby and helps them develop a strong and loving bond with their new baby.  One of the most rewarding classes I taught was one in which two sisters (ages 11 and 13) learned how to massage their newborn brother who had been born with cerebral palsy.  Not only did the Infant Massage have far reaching benefits for the baby in regards to the cerebral palsy (aiding in his development), but the already strong emotional bond was deepened even further when the sisters saw the positive effects their touch had for their little brother.  It was a beautiful sight and an experience I am honored to have been able to facilitate.

From Infant Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents, by Vimala McClure:

The Far-Reaching Benefits of Infant Massage

Infant massage, as it is shared in this book, is not a fad. It is an ancient art that connects you deeply with the person who is your baby, and it helps you to understand your baby's particular nonverbal language and respond with love and respectful listening. It empowers you as a parent, for it gives you the means by which you become an expert on your own child and therefore you can respond according to your baby's unique needs. Rather than growing up selfish and demanding (though all kids go through such stages), a child whose voice is heard, whose heart is full, and who is enveloped in love overflows with that love and naturally, unselfconsciously gives of himself to others. He learns what healthy, respectful touch is by being touched that way. He learns self-discipline by watching his parents and imitating them. The deep emotional bonds formed in infancy lay a foundation for a lifetime of trust, courage, dependability, faith and love.
